Indian expert attends: President chairs top meet on ISGA proposals President Chandrika Kumaratunga chaired a top-level experts consultation in Colombo, yesterday, on the LTTE proposals for an interim self-governing body for the North-East at which a senior Indian constitutional expert also participated. The meeting examined ways of reconciling the LTTE proposals with a unified Sri Lanka framework. The consultations as well as the participation of the Indian expert, Senior Advocate of the Supreme Court K. K. Venugopal, was arranged by Presidential Advisor of Foreign Affairs Lakshman Kadirgamar PC. A group of legal experts, parliamentarians and scholars participated in yesterday's consultation which was chaired by the President, according to a communique from the office of the Presidential Advisor. "A number of issues and legal measures were explored with a view to reconciling, within the framework of the unity and territorial integrity of Sri Lanka, the proposals made by the LTTE with available models of devolution," the communique's said. "The consultation also focused on the constitutional architecture that would be required, on the basis of a national consensus, to meet the reasonable political aspirations of all communities and concerned groups and ensure the protection of t heir legitimate interests," it further added. |
