Japanese special peace envoy due here again Yasushi Akashi, representative of the Government of Japan will visit Sri Lanka from Monday Jan. 19 to Sunday Jan. 25 to follow-up his continued peace mission, a senior official of the Embassy of Japan told "Lankapuvath". He said that this is Akashi's sixth visit to Sri Lanka since he was appointed as the special representative of the government of Japan in October 2002 to contribute to the peace process in the island nation. During his visit this time, he will chair the second follow-up meeting of the "Tokyo donor's conference on reconstruction and development of Sri Lanka" on January 23.He is also scheduled to meet President Chandrika Bandaranaike Kumaratunga, Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe and other relevant officials to discuss the current situation of the peace process. Continuing his mission to contribute to peace-building, rehabilitation and reconstruction in Sri Lanka, Akashi will also visit Kilinochchi and meet the representatives of LTTE. |
