Even exchanges in Nalanda-Royal

Janath Ranasinghe (36) son of former Sri Lanka cricketer, the late Anura and Buddhika Hettiaratchi (41 with eight fours) put on 61-runs for the ninth wicket to help Nalanda make 184 in their first innings in their schools cricket match against Royal at Campbell Place yesterday. Royal in reply were 142 for 3 at stumps.

Ranasinghe and Hettiaratchi rescued the Nalandians who were 104 for 8 at one stage with another son (Madura) of former Sri Lanka captain Bandula Warnapura making 26. Royal's left-arm leg-spinner Sandun Punchihewa was the most successful bowler claiming 5 for 46, while Tharaka Kottehewa and C. Somapala took two wickets each. Royal in turn lost three wickets - two to run outs, but N. Dias (43) and J. Jayawardene (26) have already put on 52 valuable runs for the unbroken fourth wicket.

The game resumes today at 9.45 a.m.

Nalanda 184 in 54.2 overs (Y. de Silva 11, S. Wijetunga 19, Madura Warnapura 26, Janath Ranasinghe 36, Buddhika Hettiaratchi 41, Tharaka Kottehewa 2 for 31, C. Somapala 2 for 33, Sandun Punchihewa 5 for 46).

Royal 142 for 3 in 46 overs (D. Nanayakkara 13, A. Bandara 31, L. Premaratne 15, N. Dias not out 43, J. Jayawardene not out 26).
