Big prizes at Mountain Biking and Racing C'ships

The Mountain Biking Association in association with the Interim Committee for Cycling in Sri Lanka has made arrangements to organise and conduct mountain biking events at three locations in the country on grueling and challenging tracks. The Jayoda Cycling Rally and Mountain and Racing Championships 2004 promises exciting fare.

The programme coverage groups 13 to 19 in the schools category and open events will cover the elite group. Some foreign riders too are expected to be in the fray with their local counterparts. Ivan Brown, Peter Black, both from England are expected to ride here.

Some of the races are: Anuradhapura Circuit, off road 2 to 5 km track and open for cyclists from NCO, NP, NRP and Wayamba with the event organised and conducted by Anuradhapura DCA, (contact person President/Secretary Tel: 025/2222494, Fax 025/2224304.

Colombo Circuit off Road 2-3 km Track, behind the Parliament on the Japan-Sri Lanka Friendship Road, open for riders from WP, CP and Sabaragamuwa. This is organised and conducted by the Mountain Biking Association and Colombo DCA. Contact President/Secretary NMBA, Tel: 0777881650/0777319003, Fax: 4718289.

Matara Circuit/off Road 2-5 km truck/open for riders from SP, Uva. Contact person: Secretary/President of Galle DCA/Scouts Association, Galle Mr. Ariyapala, Tel: 09/2234925 and Sri Shantha Tel: 091/2241889.

There's big prizes on offer (for under-19 boys and girls and under 16 boys only): 1st prize: Rs. 5,000 gold medal and certificate, 2nd prize: Rs. 3,500, silver medal and certificate, 3rd prize: Rs. 2,500, bronze medal and certificate. There will be prizes for fourth, fifth and sixth places with Rs. 2,000 and certificate. There will be certificates for 7th to 10th places. For under-13 boys, there will be medals only - gold, silver and bronze.

For open sports MTB event, Rs. 10,000 gold medal and certificate for first place, second will get Rs. 8,000 silver medal and certificate and third will get Rs. 6,000, bronze medal and certificate, fourth will get Rs. 4,000 and certificate, fifth Rs. 3,000 and certificate, sixth Rs. 2,000 and certificate, while from seventh to tenth places will get Rs. 1,000 and a certificate.
