Police cagers - best outfit in 2003 Police BC emerged as the best basketball outfit in the country in the year 2003 by emerging champions in all Inter-Club tournaments conducted by all associations affiliated to the Sri Lanka Basketball Federation (SLBF). Police even showed their supremacy in the All-India State National Championship last year where St. Joseph's College of Engineering, Loyala College of Royapuram, Hindustan College, S.S.N. College of Engineering, Sports Hostel of Excellence, Tamilnadu Police Panimalar College and Tamilnadu State teams were outplayed and worked off at the Dr. J. J. Stadium in Keel Park, Chennai last month (December). The Police cagers also emerged champions in the Weber Cup, Depot Cup and five-a-side tournaments and were runners-up in the Super League Inter-Club Championship in Colombo. SP R. E. C. Ranjan, Secretary of the Sri Lanka Basketball Club, said that they were grateful to IGP Indra de Silva, who is also the Chairman of Police Basketball, for all encouragement and assistance at every moment through the year and also thanked every Police cager who played as a team for their success. Police were led by Nalin Weerawardene and also included Buddhika Kumudhapperuma, Dhaminda Hettiaratchi, Thusitha Dissanayake, Michael priyadarshan, S. M. U. P. Samarakoon, Sampath Herath, P. D. K. Wijesundera, Roshan Lokugamage, Asanka Kuragama, P. Saluwardene, T. N. Burah, Sujeewa Sampath Wijeweera, Nuwan Senanayake, Asanka Swaris, Vajira Kumarasinghe, M. K. Shiran, S. J. Master and Ravindra Dahanayake with T. M. Ahamath as coach, R. E. C. Ranjan as manager and Ervin Prasanna Brahmanage as assistant manager. (L.G.) |
