Thomian Rodrigo sparkles with 65 off 62 balls in drawn STC-SBC match

A hurricane knock of 65 in 62 balls by P. Rodrigo with six fours and two sixes for S. Thomas' in their first innings was the highlight in yesterday's drawn schools cricket match with St. Benedict's at Kotahena. The Bens made 276 in their first innings and the Thomians replied with 270. The Bens, in their second turn, declared at 125 for 7 leaving the Thomians to make 192 to win, but they were 40 for 1 at stumps.

St. Benedict's: 276 (S. Illangage 76, S. Rodrigo 47, D. S. de Silva 29, K. M. Perera 29, N. Adams 4 for 51, S. Shanthikumar 3 for 48, J. Thahir 2 for 43) and 125 for 7 declared (A. Fernando not out 28, Sanjeev Mendis 2 for 31).

Ananda golf tourney Jan 25

The second annual Ananda Golf Tournament organised by the Ananda Business Group will be held at the picturesque of golf links of the Victoria Golf and Country Resort at Rajawella on Sunday, January 25 commencing at 7.30 a.m.

This golf championship was the maiden effort last year and turned out to be a roaring success with a very large number of golfers participating. This year the organisers expect around 150 golfers to tee off for the championship honours which apart from the gentlemen will be open ladies and children too and will be played on a stableford format.

The Ananda College which is one of the premier Educational Institute in Sri Lanka.

A match bag of 10 wickets for 78 by Niranjan Kumara and a century by Janaka Siriwardena were the highlights in Sebastianites innings and 119-run win over Police in a Premier Plate Division - I cricket match conduded at Police grounds yesterday.

Cambrians on first innings

Prince of Wales College, Moratuwa beat St. Peter's College, Bambalapitiya on first innings in their inter-school cricket match for the Lemonade Trophy played at Moratuwa.

Romesh Kaluwitharana 90 not out

Romesh Kaluwitharana continued his fine form with an unbeaten 90 to help Western Province to reach 244 after Southern Province paceman Tharanga Laksitha made early inroads taking 5 for 59 in their first innings on the first day of their Inter-Provincial cricket match against Southern Province played at the P. Saravanamutthu Stadium yesterday.

Southern Province in reply were 96 for 4 at close. Prasanna Jayawardena was unbeaten on 25 and Ravindra Wimalasiri 20 n.o added a valuable 38 runs for the 5th wicket. Kaluwitharana struck 13 fours and faced 120 deliveries on his way adding 82 runs for the 8th wicket with fast bowler Thilina Thushara (33) pulling the side from a spot of bother after losing 7 wickets for 127 runs.

Marvan Atapattu of Southern Province did not take part in the match due to an upset stomach.

Western Province 244 in 60.4 overs.( Pradeep Hewage 31, Jehan Mubarak 45, Romesh Kaluwitharana 90 n.o, Kaushal Lokuarachchi 11, Thilina Thushara 33, Tharanga Laksitha 5 for 59, S.Malinga 2 for 61).

Prasanna century and Sri Rahula beat Harischandra by 4 wkts

A century by Vindhika Prasanna and unbeaten half century by Krishan Silva (in the 2nd innings) helped Sri Rahula College, Katugastota to beat Harischandra MMV, Negombo by four wickets in a division II cricket match played at Kadolkelle grounds Negombo on 14 and 15 January.

Harischandra MMV 197 all out (D. Prasanna 43, D. Madusanka 37, D. Saminda 25, Asela Gunaratne 4 for 59, S. Thilakaratne 2 for 8) and 109 for 8 wkts (D. Prasanna 28, D. Chaturanga 17, S. Thilakaratne 3 for 17).

Sri Rahula Katugastota 198 for 8 declared (Vindhika Prasanna 101, Krishna Silva 21, S. Fernando 37, M. Bothotage 15, R. Madujith 3 for 31, D. Chaturanga 2 for 38) and 115 for 6 wkts.
