SLMM nothing to do with polls The Sri Lanka Monitoring Mission will only monitor ceasefire and not the election, SLMM spokesperson Agnes Bragadottir said. Commenting on the SLMM's role with regard to the forthcoming polls Bragadottir said that the election and the ceasefire were two different issues. "We will pay attention towards the implementation of the ceasefire and will not be involved in monitoring election violence or any other activity which does not come under our purview," Agnes said. Meanwhile the SLMM chief Major General Trond Furuhovde will visit Jaffna tomorrow to evaluate the implementation of ceasefire in the North. This will be the first visit by the SLMM chief to Jaffna since he assumed his duties early this month. Gen. Furuhovde visited the Eastern Province last week, holding meetings with both the defence officials and the LTTE cadres. The SLMM chief will also meet LTTE political wing leader S.P. Thamilselvan in Kilinochchi next week, the spokesperson said. (A.P) |
