Giant confectioners visit Sri Lanka Perfetti Van Melle, the world's second largest sugar as well as chewing confectionery manufacturers have decided to put Sri Lanka on their list of priority markets in Asia. Augusto Perfetti who is making a special visit to Sri Lanka said, "We are encouraged by the performance of our brands, in fact, these brands have out performed our expectations." He further said that the current growth of their business and the overall economic outlook augurs well for the future sustained growth of their business. This was stated at a meeting hosted by F. G. N. Mendis, Group Chairman Delmege Forsyth to welcome the senior international management team of Perfetti Van Melle that was in Sri Lanka recently to map out their business strategy. Mentos and Alpenliebe brands have shown substantial growth since Delmege Distributors (Pvt) Ltd., took the brands under their wing. A spokesman for the company said the main reason for the growth has been the wide reach and coverage of their dealer network. Perfetti Van Melle currently have operations in over 130 countries, employing over 10,000 staff in 30 operations worldwide. Their net sales revenue for 2002 exceeded Euro 1300 million.
