Giniwella Purana Vihara (Kataluwa) murals Exhibition of drawings from a Buddhist temple by Noella Roos, Eddy The introduction of the Golden Mean, perspective and anatomy as important concepts of western renaissance art, blended with the decorative values ascribed to Kandyan art in general and in Buddhist temples in particular, has resulted in a unique concept never found in Sri Lankan Buddhist art, says a press release from the organisers. The artwork covers a total of 110 square meters of walls and has been painted on the basis of models and dancers from the community, who spent a lot of their time working together with the artists. The unique drawings, sketches and paintings that formed the basis for the murals, and photographs from the murals itself, are on display till February 28 at the Barefoot Gallery. |
