'Revelation' - a new experience

Six enthusiastic and committed young musicians comprise the highly talented band Revelation now performing regularly at Rhythm & Blues on Thursdays and Saturdays. If by some chance you miss out on these days then you have the opportunity to savour their music at Clancy's on Tuesdays and Fridays.

Led by the 'natural born' singer/percussionist Shean Dharmaratne, Revelation are back in Sri Lanka after a highly successful contract at Quality Inn, Dubai. In fact according to Shean "we arrived two weeks ago and intend being here for about six months, so that more of our fans can enjoy our music."

What's more we are certain that the band will gather new fans as well if you haven't heard them, then you should, no sooner you read this. Blessed with a voice that is ideally suited for pop and rock and with a body language and dance act that fits in easily with the many rhythms of music, Shean reveals that he ensures that his band members are well disciplined on stage or off. Rehearsals are a must and punctuality strictly adhered to. "This is our job playing music - and we cannot fault on it."

Revelation comprises, besides Shean the leader/manager, Kosala Perera on keyboards/guitar, Zion de Silva - the only guitarist in Sri Lanka who plays a seven string guitar, he was formerly playing for Venom.

Of course the drummer is Diren Sabaratnam son of the late acknowledged drummer Mahen Sabaratnam. Diren was also a successful DJ over here. The band's bassist is Iqbal Asaam who plays bass and doubles up on rhythm guitar. The glitz in the outfit is Sherry - vocals, who one time had a stint with Kings and Damage. All members are vocalists as well.

Winners of the 'International Show Down of Bands' which was held in Dubai, where many bands participated, Revelation had the added reason to celebrate, because when they returned after the Ramadan vacation to play another contract, Shean won the 1st runner up award for the Vocal Competition out of 300 international singers.

The band excels in playing classic rock and danceable rock and music of the '70s and '80s. "After we won the competitions we became more popular and playing to a cosmopolitan audience meant that we had to be on the ball so to speak. We included a long rock'n-roll set in our repertoire which went down very well with our audience and was a popular request" comments Shean.

Now here in Sri Lanka the band will also be working on releasing a CD of original songs with what they call 'positive lyrics' on themes of love, gospel and society. A singer who was influenced by the vocal stylings of Keerthi Fernando of Venom fame, Shean is happy with what the band has achieved since their launch about seven months ago.

Since they arrived here besides playing at the Rhythm 'N Blues and at Clancy's, Revelation have been appearing at many corporate and private functions playing their special brand of rock, alternative and 'danceable' music. Make a date with Revelation.
