525 swimmers at 'Mount' two-mile

A record number of 525 swimmers 450 men and 75 women will swim at the annual 67th Open Two-Mile sea swim. Mt. Lavinia on Sunday, March 7 starting at 8.30 a.m. at the Mount Lavinia Beach. It is sponsored by National Lotteries Board and Mount Lavinia Hotel.

The swimmers from 30 schools and 18 clubs will vie for honours in the men's and women's individual championships, men's and women's overall championships, youngest swimmer boys and girls, oldest swimmer men and women and the inter-service championships.

Former Thomian, Sri Lanka and Otter AC swimmer Dr. Douglas V. Arndt will be the chief guest while former Josephian and Sri Lanka swimmer M. A. (Tony) Williams, Dhanasiri Amaratunga, Mayor of Dehiwela/Mt. Lavinia, DIG Sirisena Herath and Ariyaseela Wickremanayake of Master Divers will be the guests of honour.

Last year's men's winner K. K. V. Ajith Kumara of Dharmasoka College, Ambalangoda and Uma Kavya Dharmadasa, the women's winner from Musaeus College will make bold bids to retain the titles. (L.F.)
