'Etihad' makes first flight from Colombo The National Airline of the United Arab Emirates (UAE), Etihad Airways, commenced thrice weekly services between Abu Dhabi and Colombo from 2nd of March 2004. The Area Manager of Sri Lanka and Maldives, Etihad Airways, Kumar de Silva, said the first flight from Colombo departed to Abu Dhabi yesterday, March 03. He said that "Colombo was the first international destination of the carrier". Other daily operations planned include Cairo, Munich, Geneva, London, Delhi, Karachi, Mumbai, Dhaka, Bangkok, Jakarta and Manila and the Far East and UK. The Hayleys Group will handle the passenger General Sales Agency in Sri Lanka while 'Speedmark transportation' has been appointed as the General Sales Agency for Cargo in Sri Lanka. De Silva said Etihad had adopted an uncomplicated and uncompromising approach to offer a premium service across a three class service. "There are three guest zones - Diamond, Pearl and Coral. It is no coincidence that all three spell luxury and rare value." As an introductory package, a special promotion titled 'buy one and get one' free will be launched under which one ticket will be given free with every purchase for Diamond travellers. In addition, special allowances will also be available for the customer ranging from 50 kg to 30 kg. (CM) |
