Slow start - Sakura and Kosala lead in Observer-Bata contests The Observer-Bata Most Popular Schoolboy Cricketer of the Year contests got off to a slow start this year with the leaders of the two contests - All Island and Outstation not even polling 25 votes each. Readers are reminded that two attractive prizes are awarded each week for voting in the All-Island Contest and another two prizes for voting in the Outstation Contest. At the end of the first week's voting, Nalandian Sakura Wijetunge leads with 15 votes in the Most Popular Schoolboy Cricketer All-Island, with Tharindu Ariyawansa of St. Joseph's College second with 12 votes and Hans Fernando of St. Peter's presently third with 10 votes. Kosala Kulasekera of Vidyartha College Kandy, the all-rounder who is in the Sri Lanka under-19 cricket team for the World Cup in Bangladesh heads the Outstation Contest with 18 votes. Mohamed Shamil of Azhar College Akurana in second position with 14 votes and T. Wickremasinghe of St. Sylvester's College, Kandy in third place with 12 votes. |
