Alli launch instant noodles by Elmo Leonard Alli Company (Pvt) Ltd, a household word for `papadam' yesterday, launched `2 minute noodles' becoming the third local manufacturer of instant noodles. The other two being, Maggi, by Nestle and the Prima, brands. The Alli instant range, also includes, hopper and thosai, mixes. There is a growing market for instant meals, according to a few grocers we spoke to, in Colombo and the near suburbs. The Alli, instant noodles is termed, `Takas' and comes in 85 gramme packs in flavours as, chicken, mushroom, cuttlefish and vegetable. Alli, situated in Pasyala, spent Rs 40 million to purchase the machinery from China, to turn out instant noodles, its manager - marketing, Ms Padma de Silva said. Alli was established in 1961 in a very small way, by M Riluwan, with three products, papadam, beedi and cigars, its chairman, M R M Musadique said. In 1985, it changed its entity to a limited liability company and claims it is a pioneer in the introduction of some processed foods into the local marketplace. The Alli product range, also, comprises, a diet range, for the health conscious with red rice and kurukkan flour as raw materials. Also, sauces, cordials, chutneys, jams, coffee, matches and imported canned fish. The Alli distribution network reaches the whole island, and the Jaffna peninsular, through dealers, according to Ms De Silva. Alli products are also exported to Dubai, Oman, France, Jordan, Switzerland, Australia and beyond. |
