Charm of the 19th century colonial clubhouse : St. Andrew's Hotel by Beverley Jansz The 200-year old St. Andrew's Hotel began life as a 19th century planter's clubhouse overlooking the world famous Golf Course in Nuwara Eliya. In 1987 St. Andrew's began a new lease of life when Jetwing Group became the owners of this six-acre prime property in Nuwara Eliya. Since then, St. Andrew's shares, a distinctive character and charm.
Added to the 'Champagne Style' relaxation, the staff of St. Andrew's from General Manager,Ravindra Sivasubramaniam down are warm and genuine. The hotel benefits from a cuddling climate with delightful invigorating days and cool nights. The hotel is ideally situated for day trips to the crisp beauty of the hill country and a host of tourist attractions Sri Lanka's major tourist destination has to offer. From ancient to modern is the hotel's restaurant with a newly equipped kitchen complemented by the addition of a 'Show Kitchen' with Executive Chef, Vijitha Gunawardena and his team at work, with a full view of the guests. This is something novel. By the side of the 'Show Kitchen' is a walk-in-wine-sellar from where guests could select their wines straight from the shelves. St. Andrew's is eco-conscious. It has formed a St. Andrew's Hotel Eco-educational Circle. The main objective here is to create an awareness of maintaining a clean environment in and around the hotel. Staff welfare is at high level. The management of the hotel has a close rapport with the staff. St. Andrew's has always won praise for its blissful comfort. The bedrooms in the old wing are furnished in country-house style with lots of chinty fabrics and pastel shades. In the new wing, the bedrooms have unique furniture, like four-poster bed and have a bright, cheerful atmosphere. In contrast to the soul-less ambience of many modern hotels, guests feel at home in the stately up-to-date style of St. Andrew's Hotel, a Jetwing hotel. ############### Australian Fest at Earl's Regency a big draw The Australian Food and Wine Festival which was sheld at Earl's Regency Hotel, Kandy, to coincide with the Australian cricketers' stay at the hotel, was a tremendous success due to the efforts taken by General Manager, Earl's Regency, Roshan Fernando. The festival was held yesterday. The Australian team which was housed at Earl's Regency Hotel, were given an opportunity to savour their own food, at the Australian Food and Wine Festival. They were also entertained by an Australian Jazz band which was flown in specially for the festival. Under the guidance of General Manger, Earl's Regency, Roshan Fernando, Australian food specialist, Jerome La'Brooy teamed up with Regency chefs, to provide Australian cuisine at its best which was savoured not only by the crickets but other hotel guests. The ambience of the Far Pavilion Restaurant of Earl's Regency turned out to be totally Australian. Temperature controlled Wine Cellar serving Australia's best wines, gave authenticity to the festival. ############### Toyota for hospitality in Sri Lanka Toyota operates under a global charter that promotes environmental responsibility throughout the world.
