'People want not another but a different government' Jana Handa Peramuna in a statement under the hand of its President A.B.C. de Silva says .... People are fed up with facing elections in this country. The Jana Handa Peramuna (People's Voice Front) seriously thinks that it is high time to end this tug-o-war and to make radical changes in the administration, not to camouflage them at election rallies but make the people feel such changes both in body and mind. The people have lost faith in most of the politicians who do not think in the interests of the country. The Jana Handa Peramuna is determined to lay its political agenda for the forthcoming general election. What the people want this time is not ANOTHER government but a DIFFERENT government. We intend addressing the urgent problems of the people, namely those of Health, Education, Transport, Agriculture and Import Economy. To solve all these problems, we should have a straight clear cut, rigid policy to stop corruption which is rampant in the society today. This problem cannot be solved merely by taking things in a lighter vein. We suggest the establishment of Vigilant Committees, starting from the grassroots level to Ministerial level, with proper co-ordination. All these years, the ordinary people have been exploited mercilessly either being placed at the beak and call of foreign agencies such as the World Bank and the I.M.F. or being forced to abide by the stipulations of the so-called N.G.Os. The aforesaid Vigilant Committees could not be mere Vigilant Committees but with authority to take prompt action against those, irrespective of the position these people hold. One important thing to remember is NOT to postpone such action till the next general election. |
