Kalutara Vid. and Tissa MMV out to end stalemate of draws by DIVAKARA MOHOTTI - Kalutara Group Corr It's 'Big Match' time in Kalutara and that popular encounter between Kalutara Vidyalaya and Tissa M.M.V. will be played on March 26 and 27 at the Kalutara Esplanade with play scheduled to start at 9.45 a.m. on both days. This is the 46th year that this encounter is being played and in the run-up, Kalutara Vidyalaya is ahead with 17 wins to Tissa MMV's 6 wins while 22 matches have ended in draws. Kalutara Vidyalaya has a rich history of cricket at the school and the school has also produced some outstanding cricketers in recent times. Dulip Liyanage, Malinga Bandara, Ruwan Sujeewa and the latest star Tillekeratne Dilshan are some of the cricketers who have represented them and at least three of them gone on to play with distinction for the country. Both teams will be yearning for a decision in this game, as a definite decision has not been witness in this game for a period of around 20 years. This encounter has drawn many people to the grounds when the game is on and with the strong support of the old boys of both schools, there should be an interesting encounter this year. Kalutara Vidyalaya will have Nadina Nawala as captain and he has gathered enough experience as this year is his fifth year. He has played five matches this season and scored around 400 runs which includes a century and three half centuries. Kalutara Vidyalaya will no doubt use the experience that he has gained in representing Sri Lanka under 19 in the Junior World Cup and he has also played against England, Bangladesh Pakistan and West Indies. The vice-captain of the team is Nadisha Siriwardena, a third year and is one of the leading allrounders in the side. He played 13 matches and scored around three half centuries. Another experienced player - Alankara Asanka Shriyan captains Tissa MMV this year and with five years experience to back him. he should be able to muster his team to give a good performance in this game. Shriyan has three centuries to his credit this season and a total of 630 runs. He also has scored three half-centuries. A fourth year player Upul Senaka is one of the leading allrounders in the side, taking 52 wickets in the nine matches that he played this season with his medium-pace bowling.
