Welding school with Indian collaboration by JAYAMPATHY JAYASINGHE Plans are afoot to set up a welding school in Sri Lanka to teach advance methods in welding technology both conventional and unconventional methods with Indian collaboration in future if things go well, the Chairman and Managing Director, CNN Associates Nandi Wakista told the "Sunday Observer." The Welding Research Institute which functions under the Bharat Heavy Electrical Limited, a Government of India undertaking has agreed to help set up a welding school under a Board of Investment (BOI) project to teach advance methods in welding technology to those involved in ship building and other heavy industries. CNN Associates will also be involved in the project, Nandi Wakista said. Meanwhile 15 Sri Lankan executives from the ship building, heavy engineering and from the welding industry participated in a seven day training program held in Trichy recently. However two personnel from the Sri Lanka Navy were unable to proceed to Trichi as they were not able to get clearance on time. The second batch of 20 Sri Lankans are expected to leave to India somewhere in May or June this year is expected to undergo a similar training program in both conventional and non conventional welding techniques. The course fee for a 10 day training program is US $ 375. |
