Ceylinco Life honours top performers Life insurance giant, Ceylinco Life, last week honoured a record 243 top performing employees and consultants for their efforts in 2003 at a spectacular awards gala at the BMICH. More than 1200 office staff, sales consultants, sales executives, regional sales managers and senior management from all parts of Sri Lanka including the northern and eastern provinces were hosted at this event, the company's 16th annual awards presentation, which celebrated the achievement of Rs. 3 billion plus in premium income in 2003. The theme for this colourful extravaganza was the unique Sri Lankan heritage of Ceylinco Life, with its top performers being designated the 'heroes' of the company. Addressing the event, Ceylinco Consolidated Chairman Deshamanya, Dr. Lalith Kotelawala, made a strong case for the company to support efforts to alleviate poverty and generate employment as part of its corporate social responsibility. "Ceylinco Life is a patriotic company. It is wholly locally owned and locally managed. We work for our country and the well-being of our society," he said. Citing the example of Kabool Lanka, which was taken over by the Ceylinco Group, Kotelawala said: "We cannot build our economy by chasing after foreign companies. Local companies which have the national interest at heart have to play a lead role". Stressing that "the national economy cannot be developed without improving the quality of life of the less affluent segments of society," he urged the company to continue to support the Ceylinco Group's efforts, such as the Grameen Bank, to eliminate poverty. The awards presented for performance excellence included challenge trophies, gold, silver and bronze medals, cash awards, certificates and overseas holidays. Ceylinco Life's top awards winners for 2003 were: Best Regional Sales Manager - T. Vijayanath of Colombo North - 2 Region, Best Sales Executive - N. Pushpaharan of Batticaloa Region and Best Sales Consultant - Ms T. Nalayani of Colombo South Region. A significant aspect of this year's awards was the strong showing by sales personnel from Batticaloa and Trincomalee, both relatively new regions for Ceylinco Life. |
