'Maliban' aims to regain its leadership Maliban Biscuit Manufactories Ltd (MBM) plans to gain market leadership, post-improved profits to shareholders, improve corporate image and achieve a satisfied workforce concept in the future . This was revealed at a press conference held to celebrate MBM's half a century of success based on quality and good taste. Keerthi Adasuriya, CEO of the company, said that small-time manufacturers and imports led to MBM losing its leadership position but they were confident of regaining it in the near future as they had never compromised on quality. "MBM plans to celebrate its 50 years of success by giving back to the community rather than with strident claims of crowning corporate achievement, with its new corporate and brand positioning"inspired by goodness". "The campaign will educate the younger generation on significant cultural practices that are timeless in value and a strong foundation for family life in today's global media driven fast-paced high-tech society. "The company will also become actively involved in the production, promotion and telecasting of a special educational and entertaining discussion oriented program based on how religious philosophies can contribute to today's youth and righteous society. "As its contribution towards the development of a productive society equipped with the skills needed for competing effectively in the global marketplace, Maliban is planning to sponsor the teaching and practice of '5S'in schools. "Founded in 1954 by A.G. Hinniappuhamy, Maliban today has a turnover of Rs 5 billion and a production capacity of 3,000 MT per month at its state-of-the-art production facility in a nine hectare site at Ratmalana. The company provides direct employment to 1,800 and employs 80 distributors as well. "Maliban was the first biscuit manufacturer to be certified with ISO 9000 which it achieved in 1995. It led the company to win the National quality award in 1996. The quality certification was upgraded to ISO 9002-2000 in February this year. "At present, we are working towards obtaining ISO 14000 and HACCAP certification, which would help us in our exports as well," said Adasuriya. "Well established in the local market, Maliban biscuits are also internationally renowned with exports to US, Canada, UK, India, Russia, Middle East, Maldives, New Zealand, Tanzania and several Asia Pacific countries".Recently the company ventured into the Indian market by opening a representative office at the Sri Lanka Trade Centre in Spencer Plaza Chennai, an EDB initiative. Recalling the achievement and contribution made by the founder, Adasuriya said that Maliban was established with the vision of supplying Sri Lankans with high quality biscuits at a reasonable price at a time when imports dominated our economy. "Today Maliban is a household name synonymous with quality food products and it has transformed to a modern company with state-of-the-art technology yet retaining its traditional values and commitment to quality of the founder. It's a truly Sri Lankan success story of which we can be proud of in this era of multi-national domination of business." |
