Late Premier commemorated A ceremony to commemorate the 88th birth anniversary of and to transfer merit on late Prime Minister Sirimavo Bandaranaike was held at the President's House, Kandy yesterday (17). The ceremony was held under the patronage of President Chandrika Bandaranaike Kumaratunga with the participation of Prime Minister Mahinda Rajapakse and all Ministers and Members of Parliament of the United Peoples Freedom Alliance Government. A Sanghika Dana for forty bhikkhus headed by the Most Ven. Udugama Sri Buddharakkhitha, Mahanayaka of the Asgiriya Chapter and the Most Ven. Rambukwelle Sri Vipassi, Mahanayake of the Malwatte Chapter was held with the participation of President Chandrika Bandaranaike Kumaratunga, Industrial Development, Tourism and Investment Promotion Member Anura Bandaranaike and Sunethra Bandaranaike. The Most Venerable Mahanayake Theras and other bhikkhus delivered Anusasanas in eulogy of the late Prime Minister. Presidential media Director General Janadasa Peiris was also present on the occasion. |
