'Young CIMA Star of the Year' winner The gold award for the 'Young CIMA Star of the Year', was won by Sulakshana Dias Abeygunawardena at the CIMA Janashakthi Pinnacle Awards ceremony held last week in Colombo. It was organised by CIMA Sri Lanka division to recognise and stimulate leadership and qualities of excellence. The silver and the bronze awards were won by Manohari Abeysekera and Malintha Dharmadasa respectively. 'The CIMA Business Manager of the Year' gold award was won by Thivanka Ranagala. Bodyline received the Finance Team of the Year special merit reward while the gold award was won by Ceylon Tobacco Company Ltd. 'Business Leader of the Year gold (small organisations) was won by Dr. Harsha Alles while the gold award in the large scale organisation category was shared by Dr. Hans Wijayasuriya and Dian Gomes. The chief guest Deputy Dean INSEAD, France Professor Arnoud de Meyer, addressing the gathering said: " In a business environment, there is a rising need for good leadership due to uncertainty." True leadership gives vision to get out of the paralysis of uncertainty." He said that Sri Lanka had built a competitive edge on low cost labour but anybody could push you down by supplying at a lower rate, therefore the only way to overcome it was innovation. Prof. De Meyer said that there were four sources of uncertainties comprising internationalisation, political uncertainties, scarcity of natural resources as well as IT knowledge. Therefore, true leadership was vital to move away from the world of uncertainties. He said that human beings were the most valuable asset as it cannot be expanded or consumed and in any organisation some were successful while others were not. The people who were successful from the beginning understood the values whereas the others did not. Therefore, leadership is sharing strategy, giving meaning to stakeholders and staffers and leveraging and motivating human capital, opined Prof. De Meyer. |
