Family He was born to a family of two children, a boy and a girl. His father was a Personnel Manager attached to the CTB and his mother was a teacher. Education Liyanasuriya was educated at Nalanda Vidyalaya, Colombo - from Grade One to GCE (A/L) Examination. For A/Ls, he did Physics, Chemistry, Pure and Applied Mathematics. While in school he played rugby football. Career Since he failed to qualify for university admission, he joined James Finlays, a leading tea firm. "While I was working there, one Peter Michal Palm helped me join Heochst (Ceylon) as a Junior Executive. Soon I realised that it was difficult to control the staff without field experience. "Therefore, I moved to MacCulum Brewery in 1982 as a sales representative to gain the much needed field experience, as I believed that the highest university in the world was the 'university of experience.'" "The experience I gained as a sales representative was indeed immense and it inspired me to better understand my juniors, later in life. Hence, I don't regret leaving my junior executive job to restart from the bottom of the ladder as a sales representative," he said. After two years at MacCulum Brewery, he joined Pepsi Cola International in 1984 as an Area Manager dealing in Fast Moving Consumer Goods, before moving onto Service Marketing at Janashakthi Life as its national sales manager in 1995. Metreoric rise He joined The Three Coins Company Ltd in 1999 as its channel development manager and within four years he was elevated as the Senior Vice President, Business Development and Event Marketing. Future "I want to do my best for my family, company and the country and educate my two children." Advice "If you want to come up in life, be honest, committed, skilled, and develop the right attitudes," he said. Committees He is a member of the board of facilitators of the Sarasavi Saviya Program. Gratitude "I am grateful to my parents and my wife. The strength of my wife is my success as well," he added.
