World's 1st batch of CIM Apparel Marketers Seventeen merchandisers made history by becoming the 1st ever batch in the world to obtain a Post-graduate Diploma in Apparel Marketing. This 1st batch of 17 young merchandisers have qualified and obtained their Postgraduate Diploma in Apparel Marketing awarded by the Chartered Institute of Marketing, UK. Having realized the imperatives of improving productivity and marketing competencies of the industry to survive in the quota free era after 2005, the industry approached the CIM Sri Lanka branch to offer a Postgraduate Diploma in Marketing which is tailor made to cater to the industry needs based on Global trends. This saw the birth of the 'Post-graduate Diploma in Apparel Marketing' which was launched in June 2002. The first batch of 40 students was selected based on an application/interview and since then 3 batches have registered with the programme. The graduation of this new professional group specialising in Apparel Marketing provides a new input to the industry, viz, Strategic Marketing Skills. Moving from a production orientation to a marketing orientation, the skills acquired by these new graduates will be priceless to the respective organisations and the industry. As companies come to grip with the realities of developing their own brands, entry into new markets, new product development, retailing, advertising & promotions, these new CIM graduates can play a leading role in developing such strategies. A special feature of the course was where the student had prepared project reports related to their place of work, for each of the subjects they sat for. This also provides an excellent opportunity for the organisation to adapt suggestions made via these project reports for improvement. The 17 Postgraduate Diplomates in Apparel Marketing will be graduating in June this year at the "Annual CIM graduation ceremony on the 17th of June which will be presided over by CIM Chief Senior Examiner and CIM Senate Member Professor Trevor Watkins. |
