Ever so often our music lovers need to be nudged into appreciating the legacy left behind by leading Sri Lankan singers and rightfully the past cricketers of Ananda College, Colombo will stage a grand musical show entitled 'Memories in Song' on Saturday May 22 at the BMICH. The popular and well loved hits of these greats in song will be revived by the singers of today - Priyantha Fernando, (son of C.T. Fernando), M.S. Fernando, Susil Fernando, Vernon Perera, Ishaq Beig, Saman Silva, Baby Shanika, Samitha Mudunkotuwa, Annesley Malawana and Rajiv. The songs of singers now considered to be national treasures are those of C.T. Fernando, M.S. Fernando, Sunil Santha, H.R. Jothipala, Mohideen Beig, Dharmadasa Walpola, Wally Bastian, Rukmani Devi and more. Besides there will also be a special spot with a presentation of Sinhala pop songs made popular by the Moonstones. The musical backing for this presentation of songs including songs from theatre and cinema will be by the popular band Rajiv and the Clan, supported by a six-piece orchestra. To add glamour and colour to 'Memories in Song' will be many dance acts and the whole show emceed by Vijaya Corea. The media sponsor for the show is Sunday Observer and the presentation is by D.R. Entertainment. Proceeds from the show will be for the development of cricket and infrastructure facilities at Ananda College. Tickets are available at Torana, Liberty Plaza and Majestic City. |
