Pay hike for security services personnel by S. Selvakumar The security services industry, which had hitherto faced a manpower crisis with 15,000 vacancies not being filled, is expected to face a rush for recruitment following a minimum Rs. 1,000 wage increase announced by the Wages Board. The Board decision came into effect from April 1. Sixty five thousand men and women in the commercial and industrial security service will receive the pay hike with this month's wages, according to Secretary, Industrial Security Foundation (Sri Lanka) Inc, Ajith Jayasekera. The initial wages for a recruit was Rs. 3,800 and for supervisory personnel, Rs. 4,150 on an eight-hour basis. Security personnel are normally employed on a 12-hour roster and the new scale is bound to increase the wages to Rs. 9,771 for a recruit and Rs. 10670 for a supervisor. Jayasekera further said the wage increase and expedition of de-regularisation of deserters from the Armed Forces is bound to improve the situation. |
