Mural replicas by Lakmal Welabada
Wall paintings found in ancient Buddhist temples, a part of Sri Lanka's cultural heritage and now included in the syllabus for second year students of the Department of Art and Sculpture, Institute of Aesthetic Studies, Colombo (affiliated to the University of Kelaniya) is the subject matter of an intriguing exhibition at the Institute of Aesthetic Studies at Horton Place in Colombo.
Scheduled to continue till June 5, the exhibition has on display 34 excellent replicas of temple paintings found in Kandy, Gampaha and the Southern area. The reproductions are by young University students. In addition to the traditional paintings, the exhibition also showcases fine copies of six Japanese and six Rajput-Mogul paintings. The exhibition is proving to be a huge draw among art enthusiasts, both locals and foreigners. |
