JVP irked over Cabinet numbers by Jayantha Sri Nissanka The JVP appears to be perturbed over the appointment of two more Ministers that has now brought the tally to 37. JVP General Secretary Tylvyn Silva told the Sunday Observer that they will send a communique to President Chandrika Bandaranaike Kumaratunga, opposing the decision to appoint two more Ministers. When asked why they are agitated, Silva said that the UPFA Government pledged to the people that they will only appoint 35 Cabinet Ministers. Therefore, we can not violate pledges given to the masses, he added. "We should stick to our pledges. We should not deviate from our policies under any circumstances like past Governments", he said. Few days ago President Kumaratunga appointed former Prime Minister Ratnasiri Wickremanayake as the Minister of Public Security, Law and Order, Buddha Sasana and Deputy Minister of Defence and D.E.W. Gunasekara as Minister of Constitutional Reforms. |
