An international award for the Open University

Gaminie Algama, senior educational assistant of the Educational Technology Division of the Open University of Sri Lanka won a prestigious award for the Best Asian Educational Video of the year 2003 at the 16th international educational video competition held in New Delhi, India in May 2004. Several Countries of the Asian Region participated in this competition.

The film titled `Story of a Tea Estate', containing an in depth view of Soil preparation, Soil fertilization, Planting of tea plants and plucking, was sponsored by the `Plantation Reform Project' of the Ministry of Plantations. The subject consultants were the senior research officers and senior extension officers of the Tea Research Institute. Camera and editing techniques and other technical assistance were provided by the technical staff of the Educational Technology Division of the Open University of Sri Lanka. The Film was planned, designed, scripted and directed by Gaminie Algama.

The Open University has also was nine awards for documentary film from Japan, UNDP and Iraq.
