Sharpening Nicholson in local market

by Elmo Leonard

Cooper Hand Tools Ltd, claimed, the world's finest manufacturers of files for sharpening saws and other carpentry tools and manufacturers of world renowned Nicholson hand tools, last week met their local agents here.

Having set up a new local distributor, PROFlex International (Pvt) Ltd, Hokandara South and with the launch of a new range of Nicholson hand tools, the company expects sales of half-a-million dollars in the next 12 months, its Hardware Sales Manager for Southeast Asia, William M Funk III said.

Nicholson is the world's largest producer of files and their new range of professional hand tools which include hack saw blades/frames, pliers, measuring tapes, hand saws, lock grip pliers, nail hammers, wrenches, spanners etc. Nicholson's sales manager for Asia, Dan Cooper claimed that the Nicholson range offers true value for money to engineers, building contractors, craftsmen and DIY'ers. The Nicholson team demonstrated that their tools are the sturdiest produced. Nicholson has been in Sri Lanka for a long time, but, with a new distributor, and its CEO Manor Wickrematunge, Nicholson tools are now being introduced faster, into the local marketplace.

Nicholson's Global Marketing Manager, Ms Marisa Stephenson and Dan Cooper told Nicholson customers in Colombo that they have taken into consideration the requirements of the Sri Lankan market and would continue to manufacture and offer a wide range of quality hand tools.

Nicholson claims they are world leaders in hand tools in many countries, including the USA, Europe and Australia. With the launch of the new range of tools, they would lift sales to $30 million by 2005, excluding the countries where the products are manufactured. The international salespersons were in Sri Lanka having carried out their promotions in Malaysia and the Philippines. They had earlier promoted their products in Latin America, Europe, and Africa.

The Nicholson story began in 1864, in the USA, when William T Nicholson used his genius to invent a machine capable of producing better files than could be made by hand.

This major advance revolutionised the way files were made, allowing quality files to be mass-produced at an affordable cost. This marked the beginning of the Nicholson File Company. In the years that followed, Nicholson became the industry leader, recognised worldwide by generations, past and present as a trusted source of quality files. Today, Nicholson is continuing its tradition of quality with the introduction of new products.
