S Korea keen to help build e- infrastructure in Sri Lanka The Korean Government is willing to offer support to build the e-infrastructure in the country to the e-Sri Lanka initiative a reality, Korean Ambassador Lim Jae Hong said. "We are always supporting developing nations to improve their ICT technology," Jae Hong said at the launching ceremony of the "e-Connect 2004" website between the ICT Agency of Sri Lanka (ICTA) and the Korean Network Information Centre (KRNIC). He said that Korea is one of the fastest and most dynamic countries in the world to develop e-infrastructure in a big way. Therefore, the MOU signed between ICTA and KRNIC in March this year will further consolidate the development of ICT both in Sri Lanka and Korea, he said. CEO ICTA Manju Hatththotuwa said that the concept of e-Sri Lanka would enhance the living conditions of the people of this country. ICTA is looking forward to joining hands with the Sri Lanka government to create an effective and efficient e-Society in the country, he said. At the ceremony, it announced plans to host "e-Connect 2004", an international seminar from 12th -14th October in Colombo ICTA's Technology Architecture and Standards Advisor Dr Gihan Dias said that this international seminar on the development of the Internet and related technologies would play a pivotal role in the dissemination of ICT to all levels of Sri Lankan society. "This is more so, since the global information society now offers potential to generate access, disseminate and share knowledge at all social levels", Dr Dias said. e-Connect 2004 will consist of a seminar on Internet Technology, an Executive Briefing, a Program for Chief Information Officers of Government agencies and an APNIC (Asia Pacific Network Information Centre) training Program.
