Saturday night at the popular Harbour Room, which overlooks the now historical scenic beauty of ships in anchor, is a night that throbs with live musical action from the group C&C Connection. This outfit headed by the versatile Chaminda and Chandani keep many an audience thrilled by their performances. C&C Connection will be one of the five bands that will be performing at the 'GOH Musical Awards Night' which will be staged on Friday August 27 at the Bishop's College, Auditorium. The reason for staging the show, according to the Director/General Manager Lanil Jayawardena is to show appreciation to the bands, solo performers and DJs performing regularly at the Harbour Room and the Blue Leopard Night Lounge. This perhaps is the first move of recognition by a host hotel towards its weekly performing musicians - and quite naturally like the GOH itself it is a historical milestone. C&C Connection at the outset of their career eight years ago were a duo playing at leading hotel lobbies in Colombo as well as down south. Prior to her teaming with Chaminda, (who later became her husband) Chandani was singing with Debbie the keyboardist, with SEAC Entertainment, and performing at many stage shows. With the passage of time C&C Connection moved into being a four piece outfit comprising Sudam Nanayakkara - guitar/vocals, and Jagath Somasundera - percussion/vocals specialising in Sinhala songs. Chandani who handles the load of the vocals along with her husband has an extremely wide repertoire which stretches from the standards and evergreens to rock'n roll and contemporary pop. Her versatility in singing Hindi, Sinhala songs and in foreign languages should be heard to be appreciated, so make a date with the group on Saturdays at the Harbour Room, GOH. |
