Spark ready to capture the groovers

The attraction of the city lights has always captured the interest of up and coming bands and the new ensemble 'Spark' led by the ex-Dream Team keyboardist Sanjeewa Uyanhewa will be spreading their vibes on Mondays at Clancy's.

Sanjeewa was fortunate to gather the more experienced musicians from Zodiac and Simple to be members of this new outfit. There's Samantha on bass/guitar, Manoj who handles the rhythm guitar and vocals, Varuna - keyboards/vocals, Nadeesha - on drums, Chullaka - Sri Lankan percussion and Suranga on lead guitar.

The band's wide repertoire of '60s, '80s hits, oldies, dance, rock, rock'n roll and also the exciting rhythms of Bangra displays the versatility of the musicians. Sanjeewa Uyanhewa's launch into the music scene he tells us was with Dream Team, before he performed with a trio in the Maldives and then joined Red Serendib led by Evans Fonseka to play a three year contract at Oman.

Back in Sri Lanka, Spark has been playing at many private functions and gaining experience in backing artistes for outdoor stage shows. With Sri Lankan percussion to give that extra captivating sound Spark will be in fiery action at Clancy's on Mondays.
