Helgessen to strengthen CFA by S. Selvakumar Strengthening the Ceasefire Agreement (CFA) between the Government and the LTTE will be Norwegian Deputy Foreign Minister, Vidar Helgessen's agenda who arrives today. This aspect has been given top priority in the aftermath of several untoward incidents reported from the East over which Sri Lanka Monitoring Mission Chief Trond Furuhovde held extensive talks with LTTE political wing leader S.P. Thamilselvan in Kilinochchi last week. Meanwhile, LTTE sources in Kilinochchi said that this time around Tigers will not raise the Karuna issue in the run up to the recommencement of peace talks. However, LTTE sources said they would reiterate on their earlier stand. Tigers made four conditions earlier. LTTE is the sole representative of the Tamils, both parties should be given equal status at the talks, Interim Self Governing Authority should be the basis for the talks and the venue for talks should be in a foreign country, were tigers' preconditions for the resumption of talks. Helgessen will meet the President today and travel to Kilinochchi tomorrow to meet with the LTTE leadership. On his return he will meet the Prime Minister and the Leader of the Opposition. Norwegian envoy in Colombo Hans Bratskaar will be associated with Helgessen at all talks. |
