PLOTE Mohan shot dead by Ananda Kannangara Kandasamy Yogarajan alias PLOTE Mohan (41), a resident of Ampara was shot dead by an unidentified gunman who arrived in a three wheeler at Bambalapitiya yesterday. The incident occurred at Duplication Road around 11.30 a.m. At that time the victim was standing opposite the House of Fashion. The assailant had fled in the same three wheeler. According to reliable sources, Yogarajan had received armed training in India and Palestine while being a member of the PLOTE. The victim had provided valuable information to the Sri Lanka Army against the LTTE after he broke from the PLOTE. IGP Indra de Silva had ordered senior police officials to carry out investigations with the assistance of the Criminal Investigations Department (CID). Bambalapitiya Police is conducting investigations. Meanwhile a press release from the Govt. Information Dept: "The Government of Sri Lanka condemns the killing of Kandiah Yogarajah, a former member of the People's Liberation Organisation of Tamil Eelam (PLOTE) yesterday. "As the Minister of Public Security, Law and Order, and Deputy Minister of Defence Ratnasiri Wickramanayake, stated in a speech on 30 July 2004, the day before this incident: "In the name of humanity we condemn armed groups killing their rivals". "This killing, the latest in a spate of incidents in the Colombo area, disturbs the climate of peace and stability, and does not augur well for the peace process. "The Government will take all steps necessary to maintain law and order in the country." |
