SLMM balks at recent killings by Ananth Palakidnar The Sri Lanka Monitoring Mission is highly confused and frustrated over the killings in certain areas controlled by the LTTE and the Government, according to the Deputy Chief of the Sri Lanka Monitoring Mission Hagrup Haukland. Speaking to the Sunday Observer Haukland said that the SLMM has succeeded to a greater extent in preventing major clashes between the LTTE and the armed forces but it was frustrating to see the recent individual killings in the LTTE held areas and also in the areas controlled by the government. "We have been constantly in touch with the LTTE and the Government on implementing the ceasefire and maintaining peace. So it should be the collective effort from both sides to stabilise the ceasefire without leaving room for any undesirable incidents," Haukland said. He also said that the SLMM had a discussion with the Norwegian facilitator Vidar Helgessen over the recent killings and the latter too was very much disturbed over the recent incidents. |
