Van Dort in the runs at last by Ranjan Anandappa Test discards lefthanders Michael Van Dort (73 n.o.) and Russel Arnold (38 n.o.) were engaged in an unbroken second wicket stand of 107 to give the Sri Lanka Cricket President's XI an useful 148 run lead at the end of the second day's play of the three-day match against the touring South Africans at the CCC grounds yesterday. The President's XI team considered as the second 'A' team as the first one touring England did well to restrict the visitors for 226 in reply to SCP XI 251. Jacques Rudolph was the top scorer with 49 off 77 balls with five fours while Martin Van Jaarsveld (41), Boeta Dippennar (35 n.o.) and Shuan Pollock (39) help to swell the South African score. The South Africans were well placed at 139 for 4 at lunch, but lost 6 wickets for 87 runs in the post lunch session in 174 deliveries. Dilhara Fernando broke the defence of Mark Boucher and thereafter Tharanga Lakshita and skipper Thilan Samaraweera took two wickets apiece. Lakshita had Pollock caught by Kaluwitharana and uprooted Lance Klusener's stumps with a fine delivery and with Samaraweera wiping off the tail expectation of a big South African first innings score disappeared. |
