Lalith Kumara leads Lankan team at SAARC Golf C'ships

Reigning India, Pakistan and Bangladesh amateur champion, Lalith Kumara, is leading a strong Sri Lanka team at the 6th South Asian Association of Regional Co-Operation (SAARC) Golf Championships now in progress at Lahore, Pakistan.

The other two members of the Sri Lankan team comprises Tissa Chandradasa, who is now in Colombo after a stint in Dubai, and Sri Lanka's amateur champion K. Prabhakaran.

A spokesman for the Sri Lanka Golf Union (SLGU) said that for the first time, the SAARC Championships also includes women and that Sri Lanka is being represented by Jackie Dias and Kishani Vethanayagam. The manager of the contingent is "NUG" Silva.

The tournament is worked off over two medal rounds with the top two sides playing in the final on match-play.

India won the title when it was last held in India beating Sri Lanka in the final.

The countries competing for honours include India, Pakistan, Bangladesh, Sri Lanka, Nepal and Bhutan.
