Experience Trincomalee with Welcombe Hotel

A short distance from the town, perched on Orr's Hill, overlooking the Trincomalee harbour, is the oldest Hotel in Trincomalee, The Welcombe Hotel.

Dining area

Resplendent in its 'Olde world charm' and luxurious background of none other than the mighty Indian Ocean, you can actually feel the charm and grace emanating from the walls.

The Welcombe (named after the famous hotel at Stratford-on Avon, the birthplace of Shakespeare) is an amalgamation of world-class hospitality, excellent service and the exotic beauty of Sri Lanka that plunges you into a plethora of experiences.

Sri Lanka or Ceylon, during the late 1930's was a hubbub of military convolutions and as such, Welcombe too had a share of the war, however, they rose above the many hurdles and successfully completed the construction in 1937.

Within a few months it became the most popular hotel in Sri Lanka with local residents and tourists, as well as the wives of the Naval Officers serving in Trincomalee gracing its long corridors and beautifully kept lawns in overtures of leisure.

The front view

Looking at the natural beauty beyond and surrounding hills of Trincomalee, walking around the well-kept lawns, smelling the fragrance of fresh air and the many fruit trees surrounding the Hotel, one is indeed lulled into a sense of quietude although the thriving town of Trincomalee is only a two minute drive away and a hub to all the wonders of Trincomalee.

One is always drawn to the nostalgic beauty of Welcombe Hotel. Its strategic location serves as a convenient base - in pursuit of excursions to the more historical landmarks of the town or for those drunk on the beaches of Nilaveli and requiring a touch of those urban / old world class.

The Hotel was fully refurbished in 2003, preserving the old world charm of yesteryear. The Restaurant Bar and open air dining and cocktail terrace were also redone completely.

With an open view to entice and entertain, we ensure your palate too will be definitely and infinitely tickled by the sumptuous buffets of fresh seafood blends of Oriental and European cuisine and array of Sri Lankan dishes.

The warm overtones of the hotel are reflective of the sunrise and sunsets that touch the Welcombe each day and invites the crispness of the sea and sun and its open floor system, ideal for nature-lovers. The Hotel boasts of 15 a/c deluxe rooms, four non-a/c deluxe rooms and three super deluxe rooms

One of Welcombe's many advantages is that it is a short drive from all of Trincomalee's main attractions. 20 minutes drive from the Hot Water Wells, and 30 minutes drive from Nilaveli Beach and Pigeon Island. China Bay and Marble Beach are also some of Trincomalee's scenic sites.

For those of you with an interest in the old world, the well-preserved Dutch Fort, Fort Fredrick is just five minutes from the Hotel.

Welcombe Hotel has now come to an agreement with Jetwing Hotels and will be managed by them. For reservations one could contact the Colombo office of Jetwing House. Jetwing also owns and manages the following properties: The Lighthouse Hotel & Spa, Ayurveda Pavilions, The Beach Negombo, The Blue Water, The Beach Camp, Hunas Falls Hotel, Wetland Lodge & Spa, St. Andrew's Hotel, Yala Safari Game Lodge, Tropical Villas, Blue Oceanic Beach Hotel, Sea Garden Hotel and Seashells Hotel.
