Govt to purchase Yala season paddy.

Government will intervene in the purchasing of paddy in the Yala season, in which the harvesting has already begun. For this purpose the government has provided Rs.50 million to Government Agents of Hambantota, Ampara and Polonnaruwa districts.

The aim of the government is to maintain the market price at a higher level and prevent the crisis that happened in the past by dropping the prices below the cost of production. Agriculture Minister Anura Dissanayake expected the price of the rice will be

reduced after this yala season harvest comes to the market.
