Cabinet approves Rural water project Cabinet approved a bill presented by the Urban Development and Water Supply Minister Dinesh Gunawardena to build wells to provide drinking water to rural and semi-urban areas. The National Water Supply and Drainage Board will implement the project. The government expects donations from the corporate sector and the participation of the people to make the project a success. It is expected to build 500 wells within this year. ---- Tuition on Sunday morning banned Cabinet approved a bill presented by Cultural Affairs and National Heritage Minister Vijitha Herath to bring legislation to stop all tuition class from 6.00 am to 12.00 noon on Sundays. The minister has pointed out that number of students attending the Dhamma schools has been reduced significantly in all religious due to tuition classes. ----- Public bus fleet to be improved Cabinet approved to provide Rs.150 million to cluster bus companies to purchase new tyres for 4500 buses. The paper was presented by the Transport Minister Felix Perera. ---- Rs 50 million for drought relief Cabinet decided to provide Rs.50 million to the Department of Social Service to provide relief to drought hit families in the Polonnaruwa district. It is expected to provide Rs.1460 per family in cash. The paper was presented by the President Chandrika Bandaranaike Kumaratunge. |
