Chandrasekaran proposes JVP-LTTE meet by S. Selvakumar Upcountry people's Front leader and Nuwara Eliya district parliamentarian P. Chandrasekaran has appealed to the JVP to meet the LTTE and hold discussions instead of being a stumbling block to restart the peace talks. In a letter sent to JVP Propaganda Secretary Wimal Weerawansa, Chandrasekaran has said that this is very necessary in the wake of President Chandrika Bandaranaike Kumaratunga showing a keen interest to re-start the peace talks but being a key partner of the UPFA government the JVP should not stand in the way to bring an amicable settlement to the ethnic crisis. "If the JVP is genuinely interested in the development of the country it is their duty to support the peace initiative. All parties should have an open discussion." Chandrasekaran has further said his party is willing to meet Weerawansa and other members of the JVP and has appealed to the latter to fix a date for talks before he fixes a date to meet the LTTE. The UPF leader after sending the letter to Weerawansa on Friday has phoned Minister Anura Kumara Dissanayaka of the JVP and spoken to him about his appeal. According to UPF sources Minister Dissanayaka has told Chandrasekaran that he will consult his party and pursue the matter. |
