Eleven overseas teams for Isipathana 7's

Eleven teams from eight overseas countries, apart from the 12 local sides, have already confirmed their participation for the Isipathana International Schools under-19 Rugby 7s to be staged at Longden Place on August 21 and 22. Singer are the principal sponsors with SriLankan Airlines as the official carrier.

The overseas team which have confirmed participation are - Mentone Grammer from Australia, Haberdashers Aske's Boys School, Thanet Wanderers and Hab's, London from the United Kingdom, Keeluns Municipal Nuan Senior High School from Chinese Taipei, Nawaka District School from Fiji, Tamil Nadu RU and the Indian RU Development Squad, Roi-Et School from Bangkok and Thailand's Development squad and Doha Rugby Football Centre.

The teams from Sri Lanka are - Ananda, St. Peter's, Wesley, Ruhunu Provincial side, Sabaragamuwa Provincial side, Kingswood, S. Thomas', St. Sylvester's, St. Anthony's, Thurstan, St. Joseph's and Isipathana.

A spokesman for the organisers said that they were awaiting confirmation from Singapore and Hong Kong, while Zahira is on stand by. There will also be five international referees - Penchai Prachanuyan from Thailand, Brett Saxon from New Zealand, Mathew Oakley from Singapore, and two others from Hong Kong and England too, while the local referees will be from the Referees Society.

Jamie Scott, Secretary-General of the ARFU and IRB Representative for Asia and Jarrad Gallagher Regional Development Manager of IRB too will be present for this two-day tournament.

The organisers have also arranged a day-night mini carnival providing musical entertainment, food courts, kiddies corner, refreshments etc. with DJ music too to boot.

There will also be a live TV coverage of the tournament on Channel Eye of Sri Lanka Rupavahini Corporation (SLRC) and an unique theme song to be presented at the closing ceremony by Chithral Somapala, who is being flown down to Colombo courtesy SriLankan Airlines.

Prime Minister Mahinda Rajapakse will be the Chief Guest. Many other establishments, apart from Singer and SriLankan Airlines, have come forward as co-sponsors.
