Panadura - the next residential hub Panadura, a fast-developing township 15km south of Colombo on the Galle Road, shows all the signs of becoming the next residential hub in the vicinity of Colombo. "The demand for vacant lots in Panadura has jumped up lately as areas like Ratmalana, Moratuwa, Maharagama and Mt. Lavinia are becoming increasingly congested," Hiran Gunesekera, Executive Director of Ceylinco Investments & Realty Limited (CIR) which has developed 30 blocks of approximately ten-perch home plots four kilometres (we are writing English, not American) from Panadura town on the 451 Bus route. These highland plots with no flooding are aimed at bringing into Panadura a new breed of 30 young middle class professional families with a monthly income of Rs. 25,000 to Rs. 40,000/- who now live in congested areas around Colombo. Panadura is renowned as a peaceful town with strong religious harmony, offering places of worship for every religion. The town complies with all the requirements for a new hub outside Colombo as it has some of the most advanced conveniences including excellent transport facilities of private and intercity buses as well as a regular train service. The educational facilities are of a high standard with more than five leading schools, private tuition classes and high-quality computer centres. Healthcare is also an important issue in Panadura: There is a well-equipped Government Base Hospital in town and three private medical centres as well as five leading pharmacies. Shopping facilities include supermarkets and open markets that offer essential food items including fresh fish and vegetables at prices cheaper than in Colombo or the immediate suburbs. |
