Kandyan Arts and Crafts Industrial Centre awarded a gold medal L. S. A. Wedaarachchi A Sri Lankan company, The Kandyan Arts and Crafts Industrial Centre was awarded a gold medal at the Century International Quality Era Convention held in Geneva, Switzerland. The medal was received by Managing Director of the Kandyan Arts and Crafts Industrial Centre M. K. R. Tilakaratna from the president of the Business Initiative Directions (BID) Jose E. Prieto, at the closing ceremony of the century International Quality Era Convention held at the Hotel Intercontinental, Geneva. The Convention was attended by representatives from cultural activities, the business community and the diplomatic corps. Participants of 72 countries representing a variety of business activities formed the bulk of the attendance. International awards in recognition of the commitment to quality, leadership, technology and innovation, each year, BID - Business Initiative Directions selects companies from the top areas of industrial production, and services including healthcare, education, manufacturing small business and tourism. The criterion of the century international quality era award selection is based on principles of the TQM currently utilised in companies from over 100 countries and distributed under the name QC 100. The Kandyan Arts and Crafts Industrial Centre was established in 1973 in Kandy and most of the Sri Lankan arts and crafts including gems, jewellery items made out of gold, silver and bronze, traditional masks, batik etc are available at the Centre. These traditional items are being supplied to the centre by four hundred (400) crafts families living in the upcountry as well as in the Southern Province. |
