"We performed three of our songs 'Sin', 'Morning Star' and 'Tumbleweed' enthuses Swinly who hails from a musical family, her father the famous Director of the Police Band, Lancelot Perera and her mother Swee who runs a school of music. Quite naturally the classical music foundation is a firm asset in Swinly who is a violinist in the Colombo Symphony Orchestra, and is following formal study in piano, violin and singing. She is as equally fluent in playing the flute and the guitar.
I think songs should have a meaning in lyrics and the tunes should be melodic. In rap and rock I find the lyrics meaningless but I respect it as a form of music. Gershwin is my favourite composer and I'm familiar and enjoy playing the standards of that era" expresses Swinly a young phenomenon in music. Watch out for her solo concert in November! |
