Tigers fly to Geneva

by S. Selvakumar

A top-level LTTE team headed by political wing leader S. P. Thamilselvan will leave for Geneva next week to map out their next strategy in the wake of the present deadlock on resuming the peace talks with the government.

The delegation will meet with their legal and political advisors who will travel to Geneva. Professor Swarnaraj from Singapore, former Attorney-General Siva Pasupathy, now resident in Australia and attorney V. Rudrakumar from USA will fly into Geneva for discussions with the LTTE scheduled for next Friday and Saturday, S. Pararajasingham, head of the LTTE legal unit based in Kilinochchi, said yesterday.

The LTTE team will comprise Thamilselvan, Pararajasingham, LTTE Police chief S. Nadesan and the head of the LTTE Peace Secretariat S. Pulithevan. The team will arrive in Geneva Wednesday. Some eminent European legal luminaries, too, are expected to participate as observers.

LTTE theoretician Anton Balasingham and his wife Adel, too, will join the delegation on Thursday. The team will also participate in an human rights advisory meeting in Geneva next Sunday and Monday before undertaking a tour of Scandinavian and European countries. Norwegian special envoy Erik Solheim is slated to meet Anton Balasingham in london on the latter's return from Geneva and plans are afoot to make another visit to Colombo early next month for talks with the government and the LTTE.
