Pubudu Wanigasekera of Lake House wins triple crown Pubudu Wanigasekera of Lake House won a 'triple' crown at the Nationalised Services Badminton Association (NSBA) Inter-Corporation Championship at the S. Thomas' College Indoor Stadium, Mount Lavinia last week. She won the Women's Singles defeating W. G. Liyanage of Bank of Ceylon in a three-setter (3-11, 11-2, 11-3) and these two players partnered each other to win the Women's Doubles title beating Ramani Gunasekera and Gayani Kalutota (NSB) in straight sets (15-0, 15-6). Then Pubudu combined with Asanka Pieris also of Lake House to win the Mixed Doubels title beating Dilan Yasantha of Petroleum Corporation and Liyanaratchi of the Water Board in a three setter (4-15, 17-15, 15-4). Dilan Yasantha of Petroleum won a 'double'. He won the Men's Singles beating K. S. Pushpakumara (FEB) in straight sets (15-13, 15-11) and then partnered by Deepal Madurapperuma also of the CPC won the Men's Doubles title too, overcoming Pushpakumara (FEB) and Chandana Nilantha (SLSPC) in straight sets (15-4, 15-8). Prince Perera of Ports Authority won the Men's Veteran's Singles beating Deepal Madurapperuma of CPC in straight sets (15-2, 15-2), while the Men's Veteran's Doubles title went to Damitha Leelaratne and Neville Harischandra (PB) who beat CPC's Madurapperuma and Prabath Senanayake also in straight sets (15-10, 15-7). W. G. Liyanage of Bank of Ceylon won a 'double' in the Women's Veteran's events. She won the Singles beating Ramani Gunasekera (NSB) in straight sets (11-4, 11-4) and then partnered by C. Siriwardene of Ports Authority won the Doubles title beating NSB's Ramani Gunasekera and Nilanthi again in straight sets (15-13, 15-10). A. G. S. Dayaratne of Bank of Ceylon won a 'double' in the Masters events. He won the Singles beating J. J. Samuel of JEDB in straight sets (15-7, 15-9) and the Doubles with Samuel beating W. A. Bandusena of NSB and Sunil Perera of PB also in straight sets (15-12, 15-2). (L.G.) |
