Sarisara promotes places of interest by Chanuka Mannapperuma Sri Lanka is rich of natural beauty and many other attractive places such as archaeological sites, sunny beaches, flora and fauna.
But you won't be able to visit all of those exquisite places during your life time. You may not be aware of certain places which have unique natural beauty and bio-diversity. You don't have to worry as all such places come alive night into your TV room with the Sarisara travel program telecast by the National Rupavahini Corporation. Sarisara which has earned much acclaim and viewers applause will reach a significant milestone in December, completing its second anniversary. Sarisara is the most well-known travel program telecast in Sri Lanka with most viewers sacrificing their leisure on Sundays to enjoy this unique as well as innovative television program. Extensively covering the attractive places for travellers, so far it has showcased most beautiful places in 80 programs in the past two years. The 'main objective of this program is to promote local travel destinations among locals as well as foreign travellers,' its producer Gamini Pushpakumara told the Sunday Observer.
The main feature of this program is to guide travellers to reach those interesting places.It also provides details such as transportation, accommodation and interesting things about the featured areas. The program is telecast at 7.30 pm every Sunday on Rupavahini channel.Not only travel details, it provides you with adventure activities nature and rare sceneries,.In the near future we hope to release a VCD after every program, Pushpakumara added." The team consists of cameraman, producer,presenter,biologist, audio-recorder,lighting technician, field assistant and drivers.They performed a very difficult role behind the scene in the program Pushpakumara added. The program has covered the North-East upto Kokilai.It has also covered many picturesque areas in the hill-country, mid-country and low-country. In the near future the team hopes to move to Jaffna. "We do not have any specific sectors. Mostly we cover natural scenery historic places and also places with archaeological importance as well as adventure activities" he added. This is a perfect Rupavahini corporation production.The program is widely popular among all age groups."It caters to everyone from children to adults," he said. We get assistance from different organisations such as the Wildlife Department, Forest Department,the Hotel corporation,Tourist Board and some NGOs,Pushpakumara said. "Our program gives wide coverage to places such as Arugam Bay during its 'Surfing' event, which has got tremendous response from our viewers," Presenter Nishantha Kahawita said. Speaking about his travel experiences Kahawita said that this program gives him a lot of experiences and exposure. "When we were shooting this program I had experienced things such as walking in difficult areas and some times I got injured.When we were shooting this program in North East area we had many problems like communication and language problem."But it is very interesting and I like it very much," he said.When we are telecasting our program we are also mindful of enlightening the viewers on the importance of safeguarding these valued places.In every program we warn them not to resort to illegal activities. Anyway it depends on the traveller's attitudes.First we have to love nature, then we have to exercise self-control then we can protect our heritage, Kahawita said. |
