CEAT launches MQM More than 650 employees of CEAT, have been enrolled in a Mass Quality Movement (MQM) in a major initiative to advance the quality culture in this pioneer manufacturing giant. Launched as part of the National Quality Week the MQM involves employees and their families in a variety of activities such as poster competitions, slogan writing, essays on quality, customer satisfaction and standards, speeches, quiz competitions covering all areas of the manufacturing process. The initiative began with ceremonies at the company's plants at Kalutara and Kelaniya with the hoisting the 'Q' flag signifying CEAT's commitment to deeper involvement in enhancing quality. Twelve teams at these locations took part in the activities and the best department is to be selected on the basis of a Process Improvement Index, the company said. Speaking at the event's launch CEAT's Managing Director Oscar Braganza said: "We are delighted to be celebrating the National Quality Week for the first time at CEAT Sri Lanka." "We are signaling our intent to play on the world stage. The journey ahead will be new, exciting, and even more challenging than what we have ever experienced so far. It will call for the deep and unflinching involvement of each and every employee of CEAT to transform the company into a preferred supplier to our customers," he said. CEAT General Manager Engineering and Manufacturing, S. J. Shetty said: "Globalization and stiff competition in the world market has made Quality a vital element. Years ago Quality was a responsibility of the Quality Assurance Division but today assuring quality in every product is the intrinsic responsibility of all the employees of the company." Representing employees at the Kalutara Plant Mr. Mahendra Padmasuriya said that with improvements in the work environment, employees are motivated to produce an even higher quality product. Gayan Wettasinghe representing the Kelaniya Plant expressed appreciation of the mass involvement in improving quality and urged all employees to work with determination to produce the world's No.1 quality tyre. A new technical library at the Kelaniya plant for the benefit of employees was also inaugurated as part of the Quality Week celebrations, giving access to information on the latest technological developments taking place around the globe. CEAT received ISO 9001:2000 certification for its Quality Systems. It alsoreceived merit award from National Productivity Council in 1998. The company recently revamped its "Testing and Development Centre" to support the company's new product development and enhancement initiatives. |
